Q: Tell me about your business:
A: Bow Wow Resort has been in business since 2001. We are located in Apopka, Florida, (north of Orlando). Our website is www.bowwowresort.com. I became the Owner and Manager of Bow Wow Resort in August 2008, after retiring from Sea World of Florida. I have three employees, and a highly experienced contract Groomer. I manage Bow Wow Resort alongside my staff, because I believe in order to have a successful team one must be part of the team. Together, we all maintain a clean and safe environment for all our furry guests. There are seven play yards and two indoor playrooms, offering our furry friends the opportunity to play and roam, or, if they prefer, to just relax and “hang around”. We take pride that due to the variety of opportunities, each guest is able to positively socialize and interact with their peers. The knowledge obtained at Sea World as well as my personal determination has set Bow Wow Resort above the rest; providing the mental and physical stimulation an animal deserves, along with the love, attention and care.
Q: What advice would you give someone who wants to start their own business?
A: To have a successful business is to have the client know that you really care; by taking passion in your work, and being a part of it. To be involved on a daily basis is the key… I call myself, “the CEO and the Pooper Scooper”.
Q: How did you finance your business?
A: With the great concept of Benetrends Rainmaker Plan, I used my 401(k) from Sea World to purchase the business, and, in the process, developed my own Profit Sharing Plan.
Q: Do you have a favorite story about a customer interaction or any notable clients?
A: It is always a pleasure to meet new doggies that come to stay with us. I have encountered so many different personalities throughout the years. The most memorable times are when I see I have helped make a difference in their life. Some guests may have had a bad experience before coming to us, some are rescued pets. We have helped them overcome their fears. We have an opportunity to recondition their trust in a new situation or new people, and the changes are remarkable. To see a dog with renewed hope in the world, to see them run into Bow Wow Resort, without hesitation, is an honor.
Q: Is there anything else you would like us to know about you or your business?
A: For approximately a year I have sponsored a pet show out of California that is played over the air on our hometown radio station in Apopka, Florida. Due to my relationship with the station and my expertise, they offered me my own pet show, played over the air waves of the Central Florida area, ‘I Heart Radio’ and “TuneIn’ Radio. The Bow Wow Pet Hour is on WBZW AM 1520, Apopka’s Hometown Station, at 1:00pm Sundays.
